You might as well be asking, is there a certain age limit for training a dog? Can training a dog be too early or too late? Like humans, dogs also have better chances of retention when taught early. Early stage in a dog’s life has a better memory encapsulation and retention. Thus, when a dog is battered or abused at a young age, like humans, he will also have a trauma.

So as young as possible, a puppy can be taught with simple tricks like teaching him how to sit, play dead, and come. Of course you will need patience, since puppies are more hyperactive compared to older ones. So you need to get his attention without any trace of negative impulse.

You can actually start train a dog when he is starting to bark and when he had enough with his mother. As soon as he is dependent with his mother, he can be properly trained and managed then.
